Battling Partiality - Blended Service Live

Nov 2, 2025    Erik Erby

Who are your eyes drawn to? The well-dressed or the struggling? The comfortable or the uncomfortable?

James 2 confronts us with a hard truth: God shows no favoritism, and neither should His church. From Deuteronomy to the New Testament, Scripture is clear - our God's heart beats for the fatherless, the widow, the stranger, the poor.

Here's the uncomfortable question: Does ours?

It's easy to nod in agreement when we read these passages. It's harder to examine our own hearts and ask if we're actually living it out. Do we welcome the "riffraff" or do we keep them at arm's length? Do we say "go, be warm and well fed" without actually meeting tangible needs when we have the resources?

Jesus told us the tax collectors and prostitutes would enter the kingdom before the religious who only gave lip service. Ouch.

The Father has called us to work in His vineyard - to clothe, feed, and love those the world overlooks. Not just collect donations, but get our hands dirty serving the hurting in our community.

This week, let's pray for hearts that match His. Let's ask God to show us where we're showing partiality. And let's be willing to follow wherever He leads, no matter how uncomfortable.
